Meanwhile, news of the Colorado capers is spreading as the world shifts its attention from Sarah Palin's expert debating skills and the global financial crisis to our very own dynamic duo ... Joe Sixpacks & Hockey Moms from Hong Kong (Go Knightsie) to Berkhamstead Collegiate School for Fine Young Men (Go Ed Sibley) are on tenterhooks to see if they made it through the Rockies with their scruffy beards intact.
Here's a message from an eleated but somewhat 'cream crackered' Sumo ... I was on the phone with them last night but was cut off when a large plate of Mexican food arrived at their table, its not the first or last time that I've been second place to a bowl of chips & guacamole.
Well its GOOD NEWS as I can confirm that not only did they manage to defy the local redneck naysayers and embark upon a foolhardy snowbound journey over the top, they tacked on another 130 miles the following day. After a night spent in a deserted Unabomber-style shack owned by a very accomodating bloke who has settled in Colorado after living in Merthyr Tydfil for most of his life... (Small world eh?), they peddled on & are now getting close to the dramatic landscapes & rolling hills of Kansas.

"Great to talk earlier.Just about to crash out after our monumental day today. We did 130 miles which is our new record including the summit of La Vetta at about 9500 feet. We're at Walsenburg tonight which is about 6500 ft elevation.
Tomorrow we have a 75 mile run to La Junta in the morning. We'll need to take some extra water and snacks as we're told there's nothing at all (no services, gas station, shop or anything) between here and there. We had that a lot in Nevada so we're used to it (famous last words!). Another flat for Bugs today so its Bugs 7-1 Sumo on punctures.
We don't know yet where we go after La Junta. We'll maybe ask some local advice when we get there but we're hoping to get close to the border of Kansas. As we're out of the hills we're looking to do 130+ miles a day now. We need to if we're going to make NY in time..
What's the link for the blog?Cheers,Sumes"
Number of times Sumo has asked me for the link to this blog; 5
Number of times that Sumo has proudly mentioned the puncture count; ~10 (Should we suspect foul play?).
