Chris & Paul made it unscathed to Nevada & got some serious miles under their spandex waistbands. Apparently, the hobo-style wraps that they have loosely attached to the back of their bikes is the sum total of their kit. Besides the obligatory toothbrush, credit card and tubes of preparation H, I'm not sure what else they have in there weighing them down. If you have any ideas, feel free to respond to this blog.I lost track of some of the days & dates but here is a summary of Nevada;
- 1st night was in Austin Nevada (Sumes notes that those who are sponsoring him 'per state' now have more than 1 donation to make..)
- Visited places such as Ely, Eureka, Baker
Here's a message from Sept 27th;
"Yo DC, just stopped for lunch at "Majors Station", a bizarre pub at the junction of Highways 50, 93 and 6. Full of hunters and moose heads and assorted antlers all round the walls. A group of hunters just insisted on showing us the enormous elk that they just murdered (Bit of politics there - Ed).
The landlady said that they've a wedding party staying in an hour or so " We'll have the jukebox turned on and everything .."
Bizarrely a couple of people in the bar had already heard of us. We've met several people travelling the same route and everyone passes through the same places...there's the couple hiking across, the Japanese bloke cycling ahead of us going from Alaska to Chile who's chain broke near here, a guy called Dave doing our route close to us, the 2 girls cycling from Boston etc etc/. There's also a Swiss couple, Jurg+ Adele going across on a Harley Davidson who have stayed in the same motels as us the last 2 nights.
Stats
650 miles
Punctures; bugs 2- 1 Sumo
Hostile abuse from redneck pick-up drivers; about 4
Random acts of kindness from passing strangers; 5
Looking for a big night in Downtown Baker tonight.."
